Cabernet Shiraz (2022)

Cabernet Sauvignon is a speciality of Helm Wines and the Canberra District is perfectly suited to growing this wonderful variety. They planted their vines in 1973. Helm Wines has been successfully making Cabernet sauvignon and Cabernet blends since 1979 and has attracted numerous wine show awards and favourable critic reviews. The Canberra District region has similarities to Bordeaux and is influenced by evening easterly winds in summer (known as Bateman’s breath) which ensure cool nights and bring a hint of salt from the ocean (at Bateman’s Bay).

The Grapes
The 2022 vintage was hit on January 6 2022 with a cyclonic hail storm which destroyed our complete crop. We went to the Hilltops region (Young) in search of premium quality fruit. We found excellent fruit at Grove Estate (Brian Mullany) and using the Helm winemaking techniques produced an outsatanding wine.
The Wine
Two + years maturation in French oak of varying age up to 4 years has created an outstanding wine of bright colour, soft tannins, aromatic spicy fruit and cherry palate with a sweet oak finish.
Serve with
Helm Cabernet sauvignon compliments a wide range of red meat dishes, as well as duck, and pork.
