The Grapes
The Riesling fruit was sourced from Juliette Cullen’s vineyard in Tumbarumba, which was planted in 2005 at 620M. The Riesling clone GM 110 is planted on S04 rootstocks and trellised on VSP. Tumbarumba, on the western foothills of the Snowy Mountains is a cool climate region with higher rainfall and slightly lower average monthly temperatures in comparison to Murrumbateman. The Riesling is cane pruned each year in contrast to the Helm Murrumbateman vineyards which are spur pruned. Importantly the grapes met Ken’s painstakingly high standards— complex flavours, disease free, no sunburn or bird damage. The grapes were handpicked in naturally cool perfect conditions and delivered to the Helm winery at Murrumbateman in the early hours of the next day for immediate processing.
