This is the 14th vintage of the Helm Premium range of Rieslings, a terroir wine from Helm Wines using the most premium fruit from that vintage. The wine is only released under the Premium black label if it reaches a quality benchmark and sourced from one of their two premium Valley vineyards. Since 2004 this style has collected 14 trophies at regional and capital city wine shows, and rave reviews from Australia’s most respected wine critics. It’s the go to wine for a classic Canberra Riesling. The fruit was sourced this vintage from the Lustenberger vineyard with the Riesling GM198 clone.
The 2021 season was one of wettest, with record rain in October, frost free spring, a welcome change from the 2 previous years of severe drought. A big change from the nil production of 2020 vintage. The vines were still suffering from the lack of nutrients from the drought, and set a small crop, about 25% of normal. Quality did not suffer and produced some wonderfully balanced fruit which was harvested in early March. The wine is a classic example of a quality Riesling from the Canberra District.
Intense lemony / lavender nose, clean bright and lifted. The wine is very delicate and fine, with lingering lime fruit. A beautifully balanced Riesling of acid, fruit, and texture. A high quality wine with many years cellaring potential.
A versatile wine that will complement a variety of cuisines, Drinks beautifully now with grilled Whiting.
25 years plus, although if you prefer fresh crisp wines drink it now.Back to all wines
