At the Winery
Vintage 2010 commenced on February 27th with Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling to follow. It has been a turbulent year commencing in November with a hot dry period of 34 degree plus for two weeks and no rain. A very early flowering in late November was followed by a cooler period but no rain until Christmas Day when we received 30 plus millimetres. In January a heavy storm dumped 50 millimetres in an hour with some large hail. No real damage recorded luckily. February commenced with 3 days of light rain followed in mid February by 4 days of 100 millimetres - mildew and botrytis worries. All the worries came to naught as the Riesling fruit is disease free and showing high acid, high sugar and low pH. We are optimistic for a great Riesling and Cabernet vintage.
